When I joined Kohl’s, we had a few brands launching—Food Network being a big one. I was the lead writer and set the tone for the voice, working in close collaboration with the FN Kitchens crew. I wrote the brand promise for the packaging, as well as the tagline: let’s cook better. together. As the brand got hot, we built a relationship with Food Network magazine and had a feature ad or spread every month. We were given free reign to build stories around whatever products were relevant for that time. I had an amazing art partner and our mix of skills was a recipe for success. Whether concepting, writing, editing, presenting to partners or all of the above, we had a ton of fun working on all things Food Network.

When you think of magazines, you think of fashion. The models are beautiful and the looks are aspirational. The styles shown are a shopping list for the season ahead. ELLE is exactly that—the catwalk come alive. But for some, it can all be very intimidating. So we called on our customers to own their “everyday runway” and we showcased in-the-moment trends in real-life situations. It was an empowering campaign that made style truly attainable for all.
